Ten Ways to Beat the Business Recession and Depression

The Institute of Chartered Accountants has published a great list for businesses to beat this recession and depression.

Their advice: Stay motivated. Be passionate. Network. Manage strong. Build relationships. Don't get down. Support. Reward. Cherish. Be positive.

Here are their top ten ideas on beating this recession and depression:

"Most businesses will be concerned about the impact of the recession, but you don't have to let it get you down. Find out how to stay motivated during the economic downturn"

Top Ten Tips to beat the business recession:

"1. Maintain relationships. Make sure you hold on to customers and suppliers by keeping in regular contact with them. Consider taking your best clients out for an end-of-year meal to thank them for their loyalty and to keep them on side.

2. Exercise strong management. It is crucial to make strong management decisions and follow them through. Update your business plan on a regular basis, and be prepared to adjust your strategies and targets. You will feel more confident if you are taking control of the situation.

3. Retain your passion. However much pressure you are under, don't lose sight of why you started the business in the first place. If you have a genuine passion for what you are doing, you will naturally have more energy to overcome difficulties."

Ten Ways to Beat the Recession for Business

How does a business beat the recession? How does a business outcompete and outmarket the competition? How does a business survive and beat the recession?

Here's a great column by Shaun Smith on how a business can beat the recession...

Here are Shaun's Top Ten Tips for a business to beat this depression:

Shaun states the age-old customer service mantra: "It has been estimated that reducing your customer churn by just 2% has the same impact as reducing your costs by 10% and in tough trading conditions it is even more important."

Shaun asks us to "look out for these ten pitfalls that trip organizations up when the going gets tough.

1. Believing that delivering your brand does not require the active and continuing involvement of leadership. There is a tendency for organizations to hunker down and this leads to the leaders becoming internally focused. It is even more important for leaders to walk the talk to keep their people motivated and their customers coming back.

2. Delegating responsibility for the customer experience to marketing or HR or Operations. The executive team have to own the customer experience and you cannot afford competing agendas and politics to determine priorities.

3. Segmenting customers by demographics or account size rather than profitability. In tough trading conditions when customers are scarce you want your best customers spending more with you rather than your competitors so focus on real customers not some arcane marketing view of the world."

Top Ten Ways to Beat the Recession (or Not)

Here's a fun column by Justin Case of Montana Pioneer Newspaper on how one can fight the recession. Of course, it's a spoof... and it is quite entertaining!

Read on to hear Case's thoughts on beating this recession...

"1): Become a Hutterite: What you can’t barter or sell, you can always drink.
2): Start an Investment Bank: Squander billions, take huge bonuses, get a bailout, then do it all over again. You’ll be on easy street.
3): Get into an old time-honored profession, the oldest: You’ll always have work, always be loved, and feel very little stress as you lay back and enjoy life."

Ten Ways to Beat the Recession

Here's another column by B Nelson on how to beat the recession.

Shop at local Farmers Markets.

You can buy most anything, from vegetables to fruit, to home baked pies or sweaters. When you shop at farmers markets you put the money directly into the hands of another local individual. Hopefully they will spend it locally as well, and in turn it will keep the local economy strong.

Buy from Consignment stores.

There are many different kinds of consignment stores. Some consign clothing, others may sell local arts and crafts. Generally the owners and consignors are local thus keeping the profits close to home. The only disadvantage to this is that the products used to make any craft items may be bought elsewhere, so some of the money did not stay local.
